Movies to Watch on Halloween

Halloween is coming up in a few days. If you are in need of fun ideas there are tons of great movies to watch on Halloween. Instead of watching the same Hollywood movies that you have been familiar with, try checking out some independent films. There are tons of independently produced movies in the Horror genre that have received great reviews. The feature film Holla is of the titles worth adding to your rental or DVD owner's collection. It is the very first independently produced and directed black horror film to be acquired and dsitributed by a major Hollywood company. Holla tells the frightening story of a group of friends who embark on a weekend escape in the mountains. While staying in a remote cabin during their trip, people start dying. Holla has a full African-American cast and is being distributed by Lionsgate Films. This is one of the fun movies to watch on Halloween. It is available on DVD at most retailers online and in stores.

Purple Rain Soundtrack with Prince Songs chosen as Greatest of All Time

Vanity Fair magazine has dubbed the Purple Rain Soundtrack as the greatest soundtrack of all time. The editors explained that the Purple Rain Soundtrack has a combination of sounds that defined the 80’s although they had opposite views when it came to acting performances in the Purple Rain movie. This soundtrack tops a list of 50 selected by Vanity Fair editors to be included in a special publication titled "Movies Rock". It will feature the stars, directors and musicians who were a part of these movies. The publication is also scheduled to be released in conjunction with a TV special that is also titled “Movies Rock”. The TV special will air on CBS in December of this year.

Happy Birthday to Circle Cinema

Today marks the celebration of Circle Cinema's 4th year in operation. This is great news for independent filmmakers, since this is one of the very few independent movie theaters still in operation throughout the United States. What is especially fascinating is that Circle Cinema opened in the 1920's and have been showing movies since then. Throughout the years, this movie theater has undergone many changes. It continues to show support for independent films and the arts in general.

Oklahoma Moviemakers meet at the movie theater frequently to talk about and further develope locally produced films. The birthday of Circle Cinema is exciting as it introduces new plans to build two additional theaters. This will not only allow the movie theater to show multiple films at once, visitors will have more options to choose from at any given time. In the meantime, Circle cinema will be screening lots of award winning films that may be hard to come by elsewhere. It is a great place to visit if you live in or plan to visit Tulsa. The Circle Cinema schedule for this fall includes many Academy Award Qualifying documentaries. If you have not been to the theater, this is the time to start attending.
