Monday Movie Meme - Til’ Death Do Us Part

A new year has commenced. Consider this my apology for going all AWOL on this blog, these past few weeks. Today, the Monday Movie Meme returns with a fourth installment in our Rules of Engagement series. The theme for this week’s meme is based on the fact that when it comes to marriage, sometimes things fall apart.

As seen in film, however, not all couples have an amicable breakup, which brings us to the topic of the week:

Til’ Death Do Us Part

Share on your blog or in the comments section, movies featuring messy divorces.

Here are my selections for this week's Til’ Death Do Us Part theme.

Liar Liar

A lawyer who cannot lie becomes a liability for his client during a divorce case that involves some unscrupulous tactics to win, in this comedy starring Jim Carrey and Jennifer Tilly.

Twister

A weatherman gets more than he bargained for when trying to get his storm chaser wife to sign divorce papers in this action adventure movie, starring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt.

Although this married couple is not going at each other’s throats per se, I doubt that most husbands or wives would want to finalize their split by risking their lives driving after tornadoes – an act that is pretty messy, by nature!

Why Did I Get Married Too?

The bombshell in this drama, starring Janet Jackson and Malik Yoba, causes a group of friends to realize just how fast things spin out of control when one volatile couple plays hardball with each other during their divorce proceedings.

Waiting to Exhale

I need not remind anyone who has seen (or is even vaguely familiar with) this drama starring Angela Bassett and Michael Beach, of the unforgettable scenes involving Bernadine’s furious exchanges with her soon-to-be ex-husband.

There’s that infamous car torching scene, the drunken telephone calls on this betrayed mother’s behalf…and that oh-so audacious charging of the law firm board room, where it’s clear that she means business – and you better duck for cover!

What are some movies YOU watched that feature messy divorces?

Monday Movie Meme – Race to the Altar

*Disclaimer: The Monday Movie Meme for last week was all set to go until my blog hosting company went down and spent hours dealing with an attack on their servers or whatever. Here’s hoping all is well on their end, going forward.

Did a whole week just go by?! Holy moly, time flies by too fast. The theme for this week’s Monday Movie Meme can be considered the next step to the Rules of Engagement that we covered a while back.

Call it “Part 2” to an ongoing series of themes, if you will...

First comes the proposal, then wedding bells start ringing – sometimes sooner than usual: Race to the Altar.

Share on your blog or in the comments section, movies featuring weddings and/or marriages that occurred faster than you can sing “Here comes the bride.” Movies that fall into this category often have characters that get hitched soon after they first meet. Here are my selections for this week’s Race to the Altar theme.

Fools Rush In

Two strangers get married after a one-night stand leads to an unplanned pregnancy, in this entertaining romantic comedy starring Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek. In the case of these well-meaning adults, what happened in Vegas did not stay there!

The Hangover

A married dentist gets a second wife while visiting Las Vegas for his best friend’s bachelor party in this comedy starring Ed Helms, Heather Graham and Bradley Cooper.

Desert Flower

A famed model marries her neighbor to avoid deportation from Britain to Somalia, in this biographical drama starring Liya Kebede and Sally Hawkins. Although the guy flirted with her on many occasions, they were not dating and his proposal was more like a business transaction than a romantic offering, resulting in one of the quickest nuptials I’ve ever seen played out in a movie.

What movies have YOU watched that feature people getting married soon after they first meet?

Monday Movie Meme – The Big Apple

It’s about that time again where we dig into the crates of all our movie viewing hours to find scenes, plots and characters that stood out for one reason or another.

The theme for this week’s Monday Movie Meme is inspired by some upcoming news that I will be sharing with you all very soon: The Big Apple.

Share on your blog or in the comments section, movies that were filmed (in whole or in part) and set in New York City. Here are my selections for this week’s The Big Apple theme.

Big Words

Shocking skeletons come out of the closet when a group of friends from a once-promising hip-hop group get together on the night of the 2008 Presidential election, in this indie drama starring Gbenga Akinnagbe and Dorian Missick. The film was made in Brooklyn, New York.

Friends with Benefits

A large portion of this romantic comedy starring Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake was shot in New York City. The film is about two people whose friendship gets complicated after they add sex to the equation.

Although “Friends with Benefits” is also set in the Big Apple, the Grand Central Station scenes in this movie are said to have been filmed at Union Station in Los Angeles.

The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete

A young boy is left to fend for himself and friend when his mother is arrested, in this drama starring Skylan Brooks, Ethan Dizon and Jennifer Hudson and filmed at the Ingersoll housing projects in Brooklyn, New York.

What movies have YOU watched that were filmed (and set) in New York City?
