Monday Movie Meme - Mixology among Drinking Buddies

A few signature cocktails based on two anticipated films have been a long time coming to this blog. I’ll be posting them in a few days and am soon headed to check out an advanced screening of Joe Swanberg’s comedy “Drinking Buddies,” starring Olivia Wilde and Ron Livingston. The film is about two best friends who work at a brewery and could be perfect for each other if they pursued something more -- except for the fact they they are both in relationships -- one that is headed for marriage.

Needless to say, the theme for this week’s Monday Movie Meme will centered on alcohol: Mixology.

Share on your blog or in the comments section, the most memorable cocktails that you’ve seen people drinking in a movie. You don’t have to be a mixology specialist by remembering the ingredients..... the type/name of the cocktail will do just fine! Here are my selections for this week’s Mixology theme.

The Mojito - As seen in “Bad Boys II”

Syd brings two glasses of Bacardi Mojitos over to Johnny Tapia during their meeting about money laundering for his ecstasy operation.

Scotch and Soda - As seen in “Waiting to Exhale”

Following a nasty court battle, Bernadine orders another scotch and soda after a named James offers her a second drink at the bar where they start to get pretty personal.

The Margarita - As seen in “Sex and the City: The Movie”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but, everyone except Charlotte drank margaritas when they had their first dinner together after Carrie came out of her “Mexicoma.”

Although I remember seeing people drink cocktails in “Skyfall” and “The Great Gatsby,” I have no idea what they were drinking, so while the scenes are memorable -- the actual cocktail was not, apparently.

What are YOUR most memorable cocktails from a movie?

Monday Movie Meme - Hunting Season

Our weekly cinema grouping activity is back in action! I have no idea why watching the drug movie “Twelve” starring Chance Crawford, Rory Culkin and 50 Cent has me thinking of animal killings – but that’s the theme for this week’s Monday Movie Meme: Hunting Season.

Share on your blog or in the comments section, movies featuring scenes where somebody killed an animal. This includes household pets, creatures in the wild or just about any animal that you would find at the zoo, out camping, on the Discovery Channel, in a National Geographic magazine, etc. – get my drift? Here are my selections for this week’s Hunting Season theme.

Straw Dogs*

Killing somebody’s cat wasn’t cruel enough for the trouble makers in this thriller starring Kate Bosworth and James Woods. The jerks had the audacity to surprise the pet owners by hanging the dead feline up for display.

*I didn’t know the one I watched (circa 2011) was a remake, until doing minor research on the cast members, for this week’s meme. Now, my confusion about why I didn’t seeing Dustin Hoffman (who I thought starred in the movie) in the one I rented totally makes sense now. I’m going to have to remedy that pronto!

Fatal Attraction

A lawyer’s psychotic jump off develops a craving for rabbit stew in this thriller starring Michael Douglas. I just hope the bunny was at least already dead before he hit the water.

Hanna

I just missed your heart! Enough said.

What movies have YOU watched that feature scenes depicting horrid animal deaths?

Monday Movie Meme - Plan B

As I work to complete a final version of my “Abyss” movie -- one that is suitable for film festival submissions -- the deadlines for (festival) review continue to fly by. Coming up against setbacks such as exporting files that don’t play properly, crossing off potential festivals to submit to and being in a frenzy over the steep learning curves of features within post-production software programs, I find myself having to constantly readjust my end goal for this project. That brings us to the theme of this week’s Monday Movie Meme: Plan B.

Share on your blog or in the comments section, movies where the main characters have to make one or more backup plans. They are in a situation where their first plan is either no longer available or it has become a liability that will put them at risk for undesirable results.

Here are my selections for this week’s Plan B theme.

World War Z

When one man and his wounded guard are abandoned by their private aircraft, they board a commercial flight to remain safe from zombies in this action horror starring Brad Pitt and Matthew Fox. It’s one of those situations where you have no time to compare and contrast alternative options – you have to be quick on your feet or else…it won’t be pretty!

Heat

A bank robber makes last minute changes to his itinerary, after believing that his initial getaway plan might be compromised. I recently watched this crime thriller, starring Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Ashley Judd, Val Kilmer and Amy Brenneman, in its entirety and know of few other movies where the characters are so thorough that they can put together a Plan B, C -- and D if necessary -- at a moment’s notice.

Bad Boys II

A detective instructs other members of his squad to “Go to Plan B,” after realizing that he and two other law enforcement agents won’t making it back to an escape tunnel in enough time to ensure everyone’s safety. His decision seems like a good strategy, except for one important factor -- the squad is not aware of any existing Plan B. In fact, one of them asks “Plan B? What the hell is Plan B?”

What movies, featuring characters who need a backup plan, would YOU add to this list?
