Monday Movie Meme - Choices, Chances and Consequences #MuddyLions
The theme for this week's Monday Movie Meme is inspired by "Troop 491: the Adventures of the Muddy Lions," a family film directed by Praheme -- now playing at Criterion Cinemas at Movieland in Richmond, Virginia through Thursday, October 10th October 17th.
Starring Tim and Daphne Reid, Michael LeMelle and Terrell Donnell Sledge, "Troop 491: the Aventures of the Muddy Lions" is about a young boy named Triston whose mother signs him up for the Boy Scouts, to keep him out of trouble. He soon learns that doing the right thing is not always easy.
After witnessing a murder, Triston becomes the target of a local criminal while also being a person of interest during a police investigation. Will he follow the code of the streets or the code of the scouts? -- Which brings us to the main theme of this independent film and this week's Monday Movie Meme: Choices, Chances and Consequences.
Share on your blog or in the comments section, movies involving adults who try intimidate or harm children for the purpose of trying to cover up, justify, or expose, illicit acts. Here are my selections for this week's Choices, Chances and Consequences theme.
The Client
A mob lawyer's suicide leaves behind details that puts one little boy in danger during this crime thriller starring Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones. The District Attorney's office seeks this kid's cooperation to take down a notorious crime operation even if it compromises his safety, while the mafia is out for the little boy's blood.
The Professional
The corrupt cop pulls out all the stops in a pursuit of murdering the only remaining witness-- a young but fiesty girl -- to his drug pushing, family-killing deeds, in this drama starring Jean Reno and Natalie Portman.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone -- and on to -- the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
First of all, the question in this case is not about who wants to harm a kid. I mean, who isn't trying to intimidate, injure or even murder -- the poor little wizard in this adventure fantasy film starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint?!! For every person that fails to get to Harry Potter and those who have his back, there is someone else, already in pursuit to try and finish the job.
Heaven & Earth
A teenage girl is jailed, tortured and raped after being accussed of being a spy; she's ostracized by her village as a result, in this biodrama starring Hiep Thi Le and Tommy Lee Jones.
Did YOU ever hear or see something that you wish you didn't, when YOU were a child?
What movies involving adults trying to intimidate or harm children would YOU add to this list?

I'm almost scared to think of this, but if I have to I'd go with The Professional. An off-the-wall choice would be Aeon Flux and the kid in the briefcase.
The first movie that pops to mind is:
The Devil's Backbone: A ghost at an orphanage wants to expose a mystery. This is a great Del Toro flick!
Near Dark: Vampires turn a child, exposing him to their ways. Also see:
Interview With The Vampire
Ghost Ship: A child ghost warns of dangers and attempts to help
Waterworld: A map on the back of a child points the way to salvation
At first I thought this topic would be a bit difficult to expand upon, but darn it if these movies didn't come to mind in quick order. I had fun with this one!
Maurice,
Scary...yes...that's the thing about the unfortunate reality that many kids go through, and something that "Troop 491: the Adventures of the Muddy Lions" touches upon in a way that shows effective methods that help children develop vital problem solving skills that can keep them safe and out of harm's way. Although extreme, I think "The Professional" is one of the most fitting of choices for this week's meme, given it's contradictory depiction of two murderers on different sides of the law. The one who has a more respectable job is the real monster while the one who makes his living via morally questionable means is the hero, with a conscience, if you will.
I haven't watched "Aeon Flux" but will be on the lookout for that briefcase kid.
Herman,
Has the season brought about a sorta Vampire/Paranormal theme going on in your list this week? lol. It's creepy fun that I didn't expect! Of all I know (albeit little) about "Interview with the Vampire" without watching that movie, I certainly wouldn't have thought of that one for this week's meme. Now, I'm gonna have to go look it up and *maybe* add it to my Netflix queue, so I can stop procrastinating on it. There's just something about Brad Pitt being in it that had me passing on it every time, but I digress...
The only ghosts I tend to be down with are the soldiers who helped Aragorn in LOTR: The Return of the King (or was it The Two Towers?) but I'm curious about "The Devil's Backbone"...especially after your mention of Del Toro has me sold on thr flick :)
Every now and then I think we need a topic that will make us put our thinking caps on and really sift through all of the movies we've seen to find what fits the bill. After all, the extra mind picking probably plays more toward your adventurous side...gotta keep the engine running!
