My Summer Evening of Computers and Aggravation #GBE2 #NaBloPoMo

Here is my story:

When I visited a relative’s house this evening, everything was fine until someone tried to print a document. What started as a spool issue became a problem with an anti-virus program and now the computer will not start because the owner does not have alternative means to start it.

In all of this, I was on the phone with tech support from one of the programs used on this computer, while the owner yells in the background and all the while, I’ve lost time to craft today’s blog post.

Ugh. And now you're roped into having to solve the issue, no? I hate that. Seems whenever my parents have a computer issue they're quick to call me up and expect me to resolve it for 'em. I finally had enough and bought them a Mac laptop. Haven't received a tech call from them ever since :-) Heh...

Herman,

Right! What gets me is the fact that I'm no computer wiz or guru so why don't people just understand that just because I have a computer and know how to work MY computer...that doesn't mean that I know how to operate, troubleshoot and fix all computers.....especially when it's a different operating system.

I went to YouTube for help....something that anyone has the ability to do. It's called GOOGLE (why someone knows how to play games on a computer, yet, does not know how to go on YouTube is beyond me) and searching for something like "What the F--- is wrong with Computer ABCXX-5" or whatever and then click on whatever video results come up.

Oh and I bet you haven't received a call after getting that Max for them. Guess what, this is exactly what I talked about yesterday during this whole ordeal. I said "You need to get a Mac" and the relative with the computer problem told me (yelling, by the way) something along the lines of "I don't need a f---ing Mac, I need to do my F--ing work"......yeah, um, if you had a Mac, then you could do your work.

The thing is, that's not even why I said to get one. Since Apple has that service where they will literally sit down with you in a store, on a one-on-one basis and show you exactly how to use your computer, I figured that this would help my relative to prevent any future computer problems, thus, reducing the amount of time that I have to spend doing guess work for somebody else's computer when I have paid work to do and blog posts to write, that I'm losing time on trying to help with computer problems that I have no idea about.

Sheesh!

Thanks for commenting on this post, Herman. If anyone understands something like this, it's you....what, with all of your technical know-how and all :)

Yep, that's exactly what I tell 'em. "Let me Google that for you". Heh..! You're too much :-)
