My Memorial Day DVD Wishes
Happy Memorial Day!
It’s a day for relaxation, celebration and/or acknowledgement. Let’s wish all military personnel and their families well. Since The Bumbles placed this week’s Monday movie meme on pause until next week, that gives us a bit of a break for highlighting films that share a certain theme among each other. On days like today, I still wish I had “Pearl Harbor” or “The Battle of Algiers” in my DVD collection, as they are movies worth watching again....even if only for the purpose of playing something related to the holiday in some way.
I just realized that I've been putting off watching "The Siege of Firebase Gloria" for the first time and may try to check out this movie before the end of the day, to find out if it's any good.
What are Your Memorial Day plans?

The wife and I picked up Saving Private Ryan on blu-ray. I can't get over that opening scene where they're taking the beach. And I always cry like a baby at the end. "Tell me I'm a good man." *shudder* I tell you, like a baby! Maybe it's because I was in the military myself (as was my dad and his dad, and his dad) and can feel a connection to what's on the screen, or maybe because I'm just a big baby, but whatever it is, that movie really gets to me.
But then again, so does The Blind Side. Meh, whatever ;-)
Herman,
Thanks for mentioning Saving Private Ryan......I forgot about that movie and it is such a great film to watch. Having that military experience is admirable and also something that gives you the ability to relate to scenes in those types of movies more than others can relate to them. I wonder if Tyler will continue your family legacy.
Most people can only imagine what moments similar to those in "Saving Private Ryan" feel like while you and the previous generations before you know those characters are thinking and feeling. I bought "Black Hawk Down" on DVD and wish I thought of it earlier today while trying to figure out what to watch :)
Now, "The Blind Side"....if that movie tugs at your emotions, I'll consider it to be really good and may consider watching it now. Initially, I was never interested in seeing it.....the last football movie that I watched was "Remember the Titans" or maybe "The Longest Yard."
