The Best of Madlab Post in 2008

It's a new year! I would like to take a moment to thank the readers of this blog for checking out tidbits on movies and TV shows at the Madlab Post during 2008. As we welcome 2009, it would be nice to check back on some of the best posts from 2008.

It's a new year! I would like to take a moment to thank the readers of this blog for checking out tidbits on movies and TV shows at the Madlab Post during 2008. As we welcome 2009, it would be nice to check back on some of the best posts from 2008.

I am starting this "Best of" series by listing my top 5 posts from this blog. They are based on content and level of importance, not page views, comments or social media votes. However, you are welcome to leave comments here or on these individual posts, send them to friends or DIGG them!

Here are my top 5 Madlab Post entries from 2008:

1. Ryan Newman Wins the 50th Daytona 500
This was a great day for Ryan Newman and the Penske team. It later became his highlight of the season, as he did not even make the chase in 2008.

2. Central Cinema Closing...with Iron Man movie
It is such a shame when independent movie houses get shut down in favor of mega multiplexes that charge expensive ticket prices and only cater to their bottom line and Hollywood blockbusters. Just when I found out about this particular Central Cinema movie theater (there is another one that is not affiliated with this one...they both just have the same name) I found out later that it is closing. It was not too long after I learned more about Central Cinema that it closed its doors to moviegoers forever.

3. If you had 24 hours with ANY celebrity......
What a fun post that makes us all wonder what we would do with any chosen celebrity if we had all the power and could call the shots for one whole day.

4. Tony Almeida back on 24 Season 7, postponed AGAIN?
It was fun to cover the happenings with 24 Season 7 and also sprinkle some behind-the-scenes photos from the new season in there.

5. How poor are we? - A Blog Action Day 2008 Observation
The term "poor" cause many of us to quickly relate it to people who are suffering and do not have one penny to their name and also people who average citizens do not respect because they are just plain bums. However, I am glad that this post was NOT about any of that. This post examined the average working class citizen and makes you realize that you may be poor to a certain extent and not even know it.....even with a Full-time job. How about that for a reality check!

Tony Almeida back on 24 Season 7, postponed AGAIN?

The character Tony Almeida will be returning to the 24 TV show in season 7. He was thought to be dead, so this is an interesting decision for 24 producers to bring him back. According to BuddyTV, Tony Almeida’s return will be a surprise to Jack Bauer. CTU is dismantled and the show will be now focused on Washington D.C. where Jack Bauer is in serious trouble with authorities for his previous actions. What a foul way to say “thank you”.

As a fan of 24 and Jack Bauer I must say that this guy cannot catch a break. Sure, he does not always follow the rules, but his intentions are always sincere and focused on bringing down criminals and keeping the country safe. He is one loyal agent and although he may have put lives at risk with many of his actions throughout the 24 series, Jack Bauer has also put his own life on the line to protect other people. He has not only risked his own life, but did it without hesitation for the sole purpose of doing his job. He should not be put on trial, he should be rewarded. Oh well, I guess we will see what happens in January, or whenever season 7 of 24 is supposed to premiere.

Speaking of season 7, it has been reported that production of 24 will shut down for a few weeks. The reasoning behind this decision is that the writers of the TV show need time to “reshape the upcoming season’s creative direction” according to /Film. Did the writers not have enough time to figure out their creative direction woes during the WGA strike? Since 24 was postponed already for an entire year and fans of this TV show have already waited long enough, this is ridiculous. The WGA strike is over and it seems that many of the TV writers are happy to be back to work.

Now, they are whining about not being able to get the direction of a show to work. It is purse nonsense and could have a bad impact on the show’s ratings…..whenever it actually airs on TV. In a time where people are checking email on their cell phones while listening to music and waiting in line for concert tickets……there is no room for popular TV shows to take any longer breaks than they already have. As good as 24 is, this show could loose a lot of fans to other established TV shows and also new TV shows that are on air and would be the fault of the 24 producers and writers.

Here is Carlos Bernard (who plays Tony Almeida) and Kiefer Sutherland (The Great Jack Bauer) discussing 24 season 7 at Comic-Con 2008:

and here is Kiefer Sutherland answering a popular question that many 24 fans ask themselves....."When does Jack Bauer take a pee?".

Are you looking forward to the 7th season of 24? What is your opinion on the return of Tony Almeida? Leave your comments below!

DB Woodside as President AND Director

While planning to direct a short video project this weekend (which went nicely by the way), I totally overlooked the fact that television actor D.B. Woodside's birthday was yesterday on the 25th. He turned 39 years of age....pushing 40 and still looking good. I ain't mad 'atcha!

Anyway, I recently found out that D.B. Woodside is more than an actor. He has become a director as well, with a short film that screened in film festivals all across the country in 2007.

D.B. Woodside directed the short film first. which he also makes an appearance in as one of the main characters. I am having difficulty understanding exactly what the film is about, but the description for the film reads "Three desperate lives crash, explode, and then converge in an irreversible series of "firsts"." ------ interesting, I suppose.

For the entertainment fans who are not familiar with D.B. Woodside, let me brief you on the actor.....he currently plays President Wayne Palmer on 24 with Kiefer Sutherland. D.B. Woodside has also appeared on Grey's Anatomy. I hope that they keep his character for a while on the 24 TV show. It seems to be his most recent and steady role on television.

D.B. Woodside is also working it (yeah, I said WORKING IT!) in movies as well. He is slated to appear in an upcoming film titled Mississippi Damned. It's being directed by a woman...girl power all day!!!! The movie is about three southern young people who try to escape the patterns of addiction, molestation, and poverty in their psychological and physical abusive family. That is a lot for audience members to take in, but I can dig it!

Happy Belated Birthday to D.B. Woodside in 2008. I hope that you have celebrated and enjoyed your day. It even landed on a Friday, which is great. May you have many, many more!

See you on 24 in 2009 (I will not accept any more procrastination after that long WGA strike, ok!), go on with your BAD self!
