Along Came 50 Cent & Justin Timberlake with AYO Technology

It is refreshing to hear something new from 50 cent. A surprising twist to his new AYO Technology single is the addition of pop start, Justin Timberlake. This new song is hot. It has catchy tunes and music fans will know 50 Cent when they hear him so, there is no surprise that AYO Technology will be a hit. Justin Timberlake has shown many different sides of himself since his debut solo album. The new Futuresex/Lovesounds was not easy for me to get into at first.

However, the album has become a favorite. Justin Timberlake’s new collaboration with 50 cent may boost his “street cred” (as they say) and he may possibly become more popular among the male audience. A posting on Obtusity earlier this month suggested that 50 Cent’s AYO Technology song (or the video at least) is about men masturbating to porn. It is not unusual to hear about people being addicted to cyber porn. Therefore, this is an interesting angle for 50 Cent to address in his music. Now if AYO Technology is about cyber porn, I wonder what the rapper’s next single is going to be about.

The AYO Technology music video is nice. It is dark, and covered with lots of digital fun facts to enjoy. Based one the cyber porn angle, the AYO Technology video does a great job of showing Justin Timberlake and 50 Cent taken over by their fixation. They are spying on women with binoculars and the like. That gives off the impression of a porn addiction gone too far.

Excuse me while I joke around for a minute, now, won’t a man addicted to cyber porn eventually get tired of jacking off to some digitized woman and then want to go and find the real thing? If that is the case, what is all of the fuss about? Now on a serious note, the AYO Technology video has a moderate amount of women sprinkled throughout the song. It is a typical depiction of the average rap music video these days. However, the content and action in 50 Cent’s AYO Technology video is relatively fitting for this kind of song and genre. Some do not agree with some of the content on the AYO Technology video. Some of the reasoning for it has gone too far and will be addressed in my next posting.

Fox Searchlight Holding a Open Call for Notorious B.I.G. Movie

While browsing a few websites, I found out that both experienced and non-experienced actors can audition to be in the new movie, Notorious that is being produced by Fox Searchlight Pictures. P. Diddy is said to be the exceutive producer of this film. So, you know it's going to be a huge deal. This is a great opportunity for those (with talent) who could not try out for American Idol because there wasn't an acting category. My dear readers, if you think that you have what it takes to emulate this rap icon, audition for the Notorious movie by all means.

Rolling Stone reported that this film will focus more on the private life of the Notorious B.I.G. so it looks like this is something that many fans will be attracted to. I wonder which parts of his private life will be shown exactly. Many fans are familiar with the rumored affair that he had with rapper Lil' Kim. Hollywood films have portrayed these romantic relationships in numerous biopics about music artists. While that may be a juicy portion of the Notorious movie, I hope that this relationship is not prevalent in the film. It would be great to see his rise to stardom and what he went through when he wasn't in the spotlight.

Forrest Whitaker was considered for the role of the Notorious B.I.G. in this film. However, the actor's age caused him not to be the right fit for the story. If age was not an issue, Forrest Whitaker would have taken the Notorious movie to new heights. He is a very talented actor who has the ability to make more people notice this movie. Those who want to audition for the main role will have to bring more than looks ot the table. Casting officials are looking for someone who can represent the swagger, stature, sensibility and energy of the Notorious B.I.G which is something that close friends and family say is hard to find. Lil Mama: The World needs something better than “Lip Gloss"

If you regularly listen to urban or pop radio, Lil Mama may sound familiar. Her videos are on MTV and BET networks. This rapper has also collaborated with pop star, Avril Lavigne for the remix to her “Girlfriend” single. Lil Mama has achieved stardom for her catchy song titled “Lip Gloss”. This song is as simple as it sounds. Music fans have welcomed this tune into their lives with open arms. Children are reciting the lyrics and women are dancing to the tune of Lil Mama. While the “Lip Gloss” song may be popular, music fans need much more quality than what has been released by a teenage girl from Brooklyn, New York.

“Lip Gloss” is a Stupid Song
The concept of “Lip Gloss” is second-rate overall. Lil Mama raps about how great a cosmetic product is on her face. According to the Lip Gloss lyrics, boys are fascinated by this item so much that it is their after-school focus. Students should be more concerned about their homework, not someone’s Lip Gloss. There have been so much music of poor quality released, it makes one think that everyone should be able to get a record deal.

Former pop star, Sisqo made a song glorifying thongs back in the 90’s and then a rapper became popular off of a hit about T-Shirts. Something has to be done to stop low quality songs from bombarding the radio airwaves and blurring one’s ability to tell the difference between good music and junk. There is nothing special about Lip Gloss. It is a cosmetic that does not warrant a dedication from music artists. However, there may be some quality to a song about lip gloss if it were released by a country singer.

For some reason, country music can make any part of life seem meaningful without sounding ridiculous. Unfortunately, rap music does not have that luxury. There are too many songs that talk about nothing. These songs are a waste of the record company’s money and radio time. How many times do we have to hear about how much money someone has or where they sell their drugs? Lil Mama has entered this meaningless sector with her “Lip Gloss” song. It does not mean anything past the fact that one adores her cosmetics.

Current Beats makes the music
Meaningful or not, there are a lot of songs that become popular based on the background instruments or synthesizer. Music fans will embrace a song if it has a catchy beat. This is the case with a lot of rap and pop songs that are released. It is also the case with “Lip Gloss”. This song is easy to enjoy because the beat is entertaining. Lil Mama has received a portion of her fame because of it.

Utilizing her Talent
There are many talented and successful artists who come from New York City. In fact, a lot of rappers are given support by fans on the merit of their hometown. Lil Mama has a devoted fan base due to her strong Brooklyn roots and support system. This can work for her or against the young female artist. Many people will more than likely dismiss her as a “one hit wonder” if she does not create popular follow-ups to her hit “Lip Gloss” single.

This will be the case no matter what the meanings of her songs are. However, Lil Mama will always be seen as the bubble gum rapper to older music fans until she releases better singles. She has the looks and confidence to go far in her genre. This female rapper also has a lot of talent and can generate mass appeal for years. The way to do this is by upgrading the sophomore album to something more Grammy worthy.
