Insane Movies to Never Forget

monday movie meme

Today is all about “maniacs, lunatics, psychos, crazed behavior or mentally tortured souls” according to The Bumbles Blog: ON MOVIES ~ Movie Madness..., who put a spin on the current basketball season of March Madness and asked us to share examples of films that feature madness on an insane level.

An old VHS tape that I have of “Instinct” starring Anthony Hopkins came to mind because while I only watched it maybe once or twice, it reminded me of how human beings should not be quick to judge or come to conclusions based on the little bit of information that you have on the surface. Hopkins plays a man who lived in the jungle until he was sent to prison for murder and Cuba Gooding Jr. co-stars as the psychiatrist who is supposed to get into the jungle man's head.

The suspense-thriller “Don't Say a Word” starring Michael Douglas and the late Brittany Murphy is another one that I would place among the top insane movies and would even go so far as to recommend it for those who haven't watched this movie.

Douglas plays a psychiatrist who has to get a series of numbers from an unknown girl (Murphy's character) suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, in order to save his kidnapped daughter. Murphy's haunting “I'll never tell...” line can be either funny or haunting depending on how you take it. Still, if this entire movie doesn't creep you out, then I don't know what will. In my opinion, “Don't Say a Word” is better than “Instinct” although both movies have really great leading actors.

“The Secret Window” is a runner up for this list of insane movies but I don't have any tidbits on it because I haven't watched this movie yet. This Johnny Depp film was recommended to me a while back so it's on my to-do list of films that I need to get up to date on.

What insane movies can YOU add to the list?

BTW:

Yeah, I forgot and skipped a week. My bad. Stay tuned for some really exciting interviews with an independent film director, more film festival Wednesdays posts and possibly the relaunch of the King Dong series.

Books in the Movies but Still No Answers

Monday Movie Meme

Books are the topic for this week's Monday movie meme and The Bumbles says it's not about movies made from books, so there goes my bid for “Eat, Pray, Love” but let's move on. Instead, this week topic is focused on blogging about movies that feature books, librarians or related subjects....you get the drift, right? So, I immediately thought about that scene in “Men of Honor” where Cuba Gooding Jr. gets a med student who works in a library to help him with his exams for the Navy. Then I thought... “hmmm, that's just one isolated scene, so this movie is not going to work” and then I recalled a comedy that is oh, so fitting for this week's “bookish” movie theme.....

A few week's ago, I published a post on here about actress Lauren Graham and her Julia Robert's complex and well, she starred in “The Answer Man” with Jeff Daniels (who, at first glance, I had confused with the guy from “7th Heaven” until I realized that Steven Collins is not listed as being in this movie....hey, what do I know? I only watched “The Answer Man” once some time ago)

Monday Movie Meme

The Answer Man is about a reclusive best-selling author who falls in love with his chiropractor but finds his reputation and love life in jeopardy as he must accept the reality of not having all the answers to the world's most pressing issues.

Weighing in on "Pizza" from IFC Films

With Springtime fast approaching, I'm reminded of being completely behind on my moviemaking goals for this year. In an attempt to keep up the momentum at some extent, I am going to "weigh in" with The Bumbles for this week's Monday Movie Meme. The topic is movie characters who are battling weight issues. At first glance, I couldn't think of anything...or at least, anything that The Bumbles didn't already mention.

Actually, movies that highlight someone being too fat or too skinny still isn't really ringing the bell right now. The IFC Films release, "Pizza" (circa 2005) directed by Mark Christopher and produced by InDigEnt (which appears to have went out of business) is the only movie that comes to mind right now. Probably because while it was an entertaining 80 minutes, watching Cara-Ethyl stuff her face with food was a very uncomfortable experience given the fact that she was a teenager who looked like she could clearly pass for like 250 pounds or more. Granted, it was her birthday in this movie's storyline so I expect her to have the whole ice cream and cake deal.

The very cute Kylie Sparks did an awesome job of showing Cara-Ethyl's insecurities, which almost crushed the developing friendship with between the birthday girl and Matt, her hot pizza delivery guy.

While Matt seemed comfortable with her weight, his friends and even strangers weren't so forgiving (doesn't it usually happen that way?...mean people suck sometimes). In one scene, a very attractive

Funny "Pizza" Quote from Cara-Ethyl and her alter ego:

Cara-Ethyl
My legs are kind of...stuck together.

Cara-Ethyl's other self
Well, don't tell people that. You'll never get a date
.

Well, I think Cara-Ethyl did pretty well in this movie despite her pessimist outlook during the beginning of the movie. I mean, She DID get a date...sort of...a non-date or something, didn't she?

Some of the dialogue in this movie was a little over the top though. Still, it's very fitting for this week's "weigh in".

Check out The Bumbles Blog: ON MOVIES ~ Trimming The Fat... if you're interested in reading which movies more people came up with.
