If you do not portray any of the TV addict behavior mentioned in Part 1, that still does not mean you have normal television viewing habits. The type of behavior that indicates you are a TV addict may not be easy to notice at first. However, the healing process can begin once you figured out what your patterns are when it comes to watching TV. There are more factors to consider and determine if you are a TV addict!
You know the exact lineup of specific channels on any given day.
Knowing what day and time Heroes will air is one thing. Being able to identify the entire prime time or late night lineup of specific TV networks is another part of this addiction. If it is not hard to name each show that comes on the Fox network from 6:00 pm to 10:00pm, you are addicted to TV. Having precise knowledge of a TV network’s lineup over many hours does not only say that you are a TV addict. It also demonstrates that you watch too much TV. There are better things to do with the time that we are given than spend hours in front of the television.
You record every episode of your favorite show
It is not necessary to record every episode of your favorite show. This is especially trued if you are watching it. If there are more than 5 episodes of one TV show in your VHS or Tivo collection, you are a TV addict. There is no special science to the world of television. TV shows are not that special. The broadcast and cable networks air hours of reruns. This means that it is not necessary to record numerous episodes of one TV show. That is a waste of time, tape, space and money.
You have to watch the Season premiere Finale
I have become better at this, but there are tons of people who have to watch the Season premiere and the Season Finale of a particular show. Over time, I have realized that many Season premieres and Finales are very boring. It seems as though producers and writers threw something together to get them into the season or out of one. There are some great premieres and finales. These episodes usually include great cliff hangers and surprises.
However, it is not crucial to watch the season premiere or finale. If you make TV shows more important than they are, they will run your life. That is not a good way to live. TV is just TV. It is a mere pastime for many citizens with nothing else better to do. TV is nothing more than that and not that special. The again, I may produce a television show and become happy that people are addicted to it. That is always good for ratings. In that case, I should not say that being a TV addict is a bad thing, since I may benefit from that in the near future. TV should be utilized and enjoyed in moderation either way.
